I decided to go offshore fishing alone on a Thursday morning in Osaka. This boat is called Ocean Battle and it is docked at a port called Jizohama in Osaka. The captain usually takes anglers fishing around Wakayama or Awaji island where depths range between 25-40m.
I brought lots of metal jigs and only had 1 sinking pencil. I had to get up at 3.30am the next day and didn’t have time to buy more. The stick bait l I used this time was DUEL Hardcore Sinking Minnow 35g 110S in HHS color (Sardine). It could cast far out and had a nice wobble to the tail, which increased the appeal tremendously.
At around 7am, we arrived at Okinoshima area. Within the first 5 minutes, I caught my first Kingfish! (See pictures above) Then again in the next 10 minutes or so, the second one chased my lure. I slowed down just a little bit to give it a chance to get hooked and I got lucky! It was a 47cm Kingfish!
The third Kingfish got hooked but I lost my lure and shock leader. It was sad but luckily the captain lent me some of his stick baits. I borrowed a slightly heavier one as the winds got stronger. This stick bait was 45g and a clear-colored Tackle House Bezel stick bait with larger hooks.
We were told to move to a slightly different spot. This time I tried by casting towards the shore and I saw a feeding frenzy! I casted over the school of fish in order not to shock them. I used a different action by moving side to side and reeling at the same time.
A larger Kingfish chased my lure! Again I slowed down and it got hooked! It was bigger and heavier than the first 2, measuring at 50cm! All my tackles are listed in the pictures above. Feel free to click on them and check them out on Amazon or Rakuten.
